ἀντίος , 3 (ἀντί): opposite; freq. w. verbs of motion, and usually followed by gen., sometimes by dat., in both friendly and unfriendly sense; οὐκ ἀθρῆσαι δύνατ᾽ ἀντίη, ‘over towards’ him, Od. 19.478 ; ἀντιος ἦλθε θέων, came running to ‘meet’ him, Il. 6.54, Il. 1.535, Il. 2.185; dat., Il. 7.20; against, εἰ μή τις Δαναῶν νῦν Ἕκτορος ἀντίος εἶσιν, Il. 7.28; so ἵστασθαι, α<*>σσειν, ἔγχἐ ἀεῖραι, etc., dat., Il. 15.584, Il. 20.422.—Adv., ἀντίον, ἀντία, in same senses, and reg. w. gen.; ὅστις σέθεν ἀντίον εἴπῃ, against, Il. 1.230 ; ἵν᾽ ἀντίον αὐτὸς ἐνίσπῃ, ‘in my presence,’ Od. 17.529 ; δίφρον ἀντἴ Ἀλεξάνδροιο θεα? κατέθηκε, Il. 3.425.
