βασιλεύς , ῆος: king, exercising the functions of commander - in - chief, priest, and judge; pl., βασιλῆες, kings, nobles, chiefs, termed σκηπτοῦχοι, διογενεῖς, διοτρεφεῖς.—Used adjectively w. ἀνήρ, Il. 3.170; ἄναξ, Od. 20.194; hence comp. βασιλεύτερος, sup. βασιλεύτατος, more, most kingly, princely.
