φόρμιγξ , ιγγος: phorminx, a kind of lute or lyre. The crosspiece (bridge) was called ζυγόν, the pegs κόλλοπες. Played not only by the professional bard, and by Apollo, Il. 24.63, but exceptionally also by heroes, Il. 9.186. In form substantially like the κίθαρις represented in the cut.
