ἶρις (ϝῖρις), dat. pl. ι?ρισσιν: rainbow, Il. 11.27, Il. 17.547.—Personified, Ἶρις, ιδος, acc. Ἶριν, voc. Ἶρι, Iris, messenger of the gods in the Iliad. To men she usually appears under the assumed form of some mortal.
