μάντις , ιος (μάντηος, Od. 10.493): seer, prophet, expounder of omens, which were drawn from the flight of birds, from dreams, and from sacrifices. Seers celebrated by Homer are Tiresias, Calchas, Melampus, Theoclymenus.
