ὅσος, ὅσσος : how
great, how much, pl. how many, w. τόσσος expressed or implied as antec.,
(as great) as, (as
much) as, pl. (as many)
as (quantus, quot); very often the appropriate form
of πᾶς precedes (or is implied) as
antecedent, Τρώων ὅσσοι ἄριστοι,
all the bravest of the Trojans, Il. 12.13, Il.
2.125, Od. 11.388,
etc.—Neut. as adv., ὅσον, ὅσσον,
ὅσον ἔπι, ὅσσον τ᾽ ἔπι, as far as,
Il. 2.616, Il. 23.251
; ὅσον ἐς Σκαια?ς πύλα_ς,
‘only as far as,’ Il. 9.354; so ὅσον
τε, ‘about,’ Od. 9.322; w. comp. and sup., ‘by how
much,’ ‘how far,’ Il. 9.160, Il.
