This text is part of:
ἐργασίας, ‘industries,’ a general term covering agriculture, commerce, and handicraft. πραγματείας: lit. ‘business’, so here in particular of ‘lawsuits’, the chief business of an Athenian in the fourth century B.C. Isocr. when he uses the word in this sense generally qualifies it, e.g. Antidos. 31 τῆς περὶ τὰ δικαστήρια πραγματείας and ib. 40 τῶν πραγματειῶν τῶν περὶ τὰ συμβόλαια γιγνομένων; he probably does not so qualify it here to avoid spoiling the balance of the sentence, in which τὰς δὲ πραγματείας corresponds to τὰς μὲν ἐργασίας. περὶ ὧν: see note on E. 3. ἀκινήτως ἔχειν περὶ τῶν δικαίων, ‘should be immutable on questions of justice’ (F.).
