εἰ . . . παραχωρεῖ: cf. 315 e εἰ τυγχάνει ὤν.

ἀντιποιεῖται: sc. τοῦ κρείσσων εἶναι διαλεχθῆναι.

μή: and not οὐ, because const. with an imv. (equiv. to μηδὲ ἀποτεινέτω); but οὐκ ἐθέλων, because ἐκκρούων . . . λόγον gives the reasons for the ἀποτείνειν, as they actually exist.

ἐκκρούων: lit. strike out a weapon or a ball from one's hand, thrust one out of the way; then, put to one side, frustrate, always with the idea of violence. Here ἐκκρούων τοὺς λόγους means “frustrating the purpose,” “defeating the result of the discussion.” Cf. Arist. Eth. N. iii. 15 κἂν μεγάλαι καὶ σφροδραὶ ὦσι (αἱ ἐπιθυμίαι), καὶ τὸν λογισμὸν ἐκκρούουσιν, Dem. XL. 43 ἵνα ἀποδιαιτηθέντα μου λύσας ἐξ ἀρχῆς με συκοφαντῇ καὶ τὴν δίκην ταύτην ἐκκρούῃ.
