ταῦτα: see on 325 a, l. 14.

ἐπεὶ γιγνώσκειν: on the inf. by assimilation after ἐπεί in indir. disc., see GMT. 92, 2, N. 3; H. 947. Cf. Phaedo 109 e.

τοῦτο τὸ πάθημα: sc. γιγνώσκοντας τὰ βέλτιστα οὐκ ἐθέλειν πράττειν, ἐξὸν αὐτοῖς, cf. 352 d.

ἡδονῆς: for the gen. after verbs implying comparison, see G. 175, 2; H. 749.

ἀλλά: now (like at after si); not infreq. after εἰ. Cf. Phaedo 91 b εἰ δὲ μηδέν ἐστι τελευτήσαντι, ἀλλ᾽ οὖν ἧττον τοῖς παροῦσιν ἀηδὴς ἔσομαι ὀδυρόμενος but, if all is ended when one is dead, I shall at least be less disagreeable to my friends through lamentations.

τι ἂν τύχωσι: (sc. λέγοντες) the first thing that strikes them. Cf. Crito 45 d τι ἂν τύχωσι, τοῦτο πράξουσι.
