θεῶν παῖδες: e.g. Musaeus and Orpheus (Σελήνης τε καὶ Μουσῶν ἔγγονοι 364 E). Madvig's rejection of οἵ (so also Ficinus) before ταῦτα in the last clause seriously impairs the rhythm of the sentence. ἄκρων . ἄκρος was a fashionable expression to apply to the élite of any profession or art: cf. Theaet. 152 E τῶν ποιητῶν οἱ ἄκροι τῆς ποιήσεως ἑκατέρας, Pol. 292 E, supra 360 E, infra III 405 A, V 459 B.
