Aquili'nus

1. T. Herminius Aquilinus, one of the heroes in the lay of the Tarquins, was with M. Horatius the commander of the troops of Tarquinius Superbus when he was expelled from the camp. He was one of the defenders of the Sublician bridge against the whole force of Porsenna, and took an active part in the subsequent battle against the Etruscans. He was consul in B. C. 506, and fell in the battle of the lake Regillus in 498, in single combat with Mamilius. (Liv. 2.10, 11, 20; Dionys. A. R. 4.75, 5.22, 23, 26, 36, 6.12; Plut. Puplic. 16.)
