Cyre'ne

Κυρήνη), a daughter of Hypseus or Peneius by Chlidanope, a granddaughter of Peneius and Creusa, was beloved by Apollo, who carried her from mount Pelion to Libya, where Cvrene derived its name from her. She became by Apollo the mother of Aristaeus. (Pind. P. 9.5. &c.; Apollon. 1.500, &c.; Diod. 4.81; Serv. ad Aen. 4.42, 317; Hyg. Fab. 161.) It is a mere mistake that Justin (13.7) calls Anthocus, Nomius, and Argaeus sons of Cyrene. (Comp. ARISTAEUS.) There are two other mythical personages of the name of Cyrene. (Hyg. Fab. 14; Apollod. 2.5.8.)
