Lentulus
12. L.
Cornelius Lentulus, L. F. L. N., brother of the last (Vaill.
Cornelii, No. 28), praetor in Sardinia B. C. 211 (
Liv. 25.41,
26.1), succeeded Scipio as proconsul in Spain, where he remained for eleven years, and on his return was not allowed more than an ovation, because he only held proconsular rank. (
Liv. 28.38,
29.2,
11,
13,
30.41,
31.20,
30.) During his absence in Spain he was carule aedile with his brother Cneius [No. 11], though he had been already praetor. (
Liv. 29.11.)
This might be to further his designs upon the consulship, which he obtained the year after his return, B. C. 199; and the year after that he was proconsul in Gaul. (
Liv. 31.49,
32.1,
2,
8,
9.)
He is perhaps the Lentulus that was decemvir sacrorum in B. C. 213, and died in 173. (
Id. 25.2, 42.10.)
