Maca'rius MONACHUS.

17. MONACHUS. According to Gennadius of Marseilles, Macarius, a Roman monk, wrote Liber adversus Mathematicos, or as it is described by Rufinus, Opuscula adversus Fatum et Matliesin, now lost. He lived about the end of the fourth century, and was the intimate friend of Rufinus, who inscribed to him his Latin version of the Περὶ ἀρχῶν of Origen, and his Apologia pro Origene. (Gennadius, De Viris Illustr. c. 28; Fabric. Biblioth. Graec. vol. viii. p. 372; Cave, Hist. Litt. ad ann. 401.)

William Smith. A Dictionary of Greek and Roman biography and mythology. London. John Murray: printed by Spottiswoode and Co., New-Street Square and Parliament Street. In the article on Soranus, we find: "at this present time (1848)" and this date seems to reflect the dates of works cited. 1873 - probably the printing date.
