Pe'gasis

Πηγασίς) i. e. descended from Pegasus or originating by him; hence it is applied to the well Hippocrene, which was called forth by the hoof of Pegasus (Mosch. 3.78; Ov. Tr. 3.7. 15). The Muses themselves also are sometimes called Pegasides, as well as other nymphs of wells and brooks. (Virg. Catal. 71. 2; Ov. Ep. 15.27; Propert. 3.1. 19; Quint. Smyrn. 3.301; comp. Heyne, ad Apollo. p. 301.)
