Polybo'tes

（Πολυβώτης), a giant, who in the contest between the gods and giants was pursued by Poseidon across the sea as far as the island of Cos. There Poseidon tore away a part of the island, which was afterwards called Nisyrion, and throwing it upon the giant buried him under it. (Apollod. 1.6.2; Paus. 1.2.4 ; Strab. x. p.489.)

In the article on Soranus, we find: "at this present time (1848)" and this date seems to reflect the dates of works cited. 1873 - probably the printing date.
