Protys

an rrtist of the Graeco-Roman period, whose name is known by an inscription on the base of a piece of sculpture, representing four figures placed back to back, which was found in Upper Fgpt, and is now in the Museum at Turin. The inscription is:--

ΠΡΩΤΨΤΟΞ ΤΕΧΝΗ ΕΡΓΑΞΤΗΡΙΑΡΧΟΨ

that is, "the work of Protys, the chief of the artists' workshop." (R. Rochette, Lettre à M. Schorn, pp. 394, 395.)
