Poole, William Frederick 1821-1894

Librarian; born in Salem, Mass., Dec. 24, 1821; graduated at Yale College in 1849; librarian of the Boston Athenaeum in 1856-69; organized the public library of Cincinnati, O., in 1869, and that of Chicago in 1874. His publications include Cotton Mather and Salem witchcraft; The Popham colony; The ordinance of 1787; Anti-slavery opinions before 1800; the chapter on Witchcraft in the Memorial history of Boston; Index to periodic Literature; and The battle of dictionaries. He died in Evanston, Ill., March 1, 1894.
