Dale, Samuel, 1772-1841

Pioneer; born in Rockbridge county, Va., in 1772. His parents emigrated to Georgia in 1783. In 1793, after the death of his parents, he enlisted in the United States army as a scout, and subsequently became well known as “Big Sam.” In 1831 he supervised the removal of the Choctaw Indians to the Indian Territory. He died in Lauderdale county, Miss., May 24, 1841.
