Griffin, Simon Goddell 1824-

Military officer; born in Nelson, N. H., Aug. 9, 1824; began law practice in Concord in 1860; served with marked distinction through the Civil War; was commissioned brigadier-general of volunteers in 1864; and on June 16 of that year led an assault at Petersburg, capturing 1,000 Confederates and their works. He was brevetted majorgeneral of volunteers, and was mustered out of the service, Aug. 24, 1865.
