Milroy, Robert Huston 1816-

Military officer; born in Washington county, Md., June 11, 1816; became a lawyer; served in the 1st Indiana Volunteers in the Mexican War; became colonel of the 9th Indiana Volunteers, April 26, 1861; brigadiergeneral, Feb. 6, 1862; and major-general in 1863; served principally in western Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley.
