Dakota Volunteers.


1st Dakota Battalion Cavalry

Organized, Company “A” at Yankton, D. T., April, 1862.

Company “B” at Sioux City, Iowa, March 31, 1863.

Assigned to duty in the District of Iowa and Dakota Department of the Northwest, defending frontiers and operating — against Indians.

Participated in Sully's Expedition against hostile Sioux Indians in Dakota July 25 to Oct. 8, 1864, wth engagements at Tah-kah-a-kuty July 28, and at Two Hills, Bad Lands, Little Missouri River August 8-9.

Mustered out Co. A May 9, 1865, Co. B Nov. 15, 1865.
