Dudley furnished about two hundred men for the war, and at the end had a surplus of seventeen over and above all demands. Two were commissioned officers. The whole amount of money appropriated and expended by the town on account of the war, exclusive of State aid, was fourteen thousand four hundred and twenty-one dollars and four cents ($14,421.04). The amount raised and expended by the town during the war for State aid to soldiers' families, and repaid by the Commonwealth, was as follows: In 1861, $55.44; in 1862, $1,645.51; in 1863, $2, 6686.86; in 1864, $2,826.49; in 1865, $1,650.00. Total amount, $8,864.30.
