[69] 1863. No action appears to have been necessary by the town during this year to keep its quota filled. 1864. June 25th, Voted, to pay a bounty of one hundred and twenty-five dollars to each volunteer who shall enlist for three years military service, and be accepted and credited to the town. This bounty was continued to be paid until the end of the war. Clarksburg furnished forty-two men for the war, which was a surplus of two over and above all demands. None were commissioned officers. The whole amount of money appropriated and expended by the town on account of the war, exclusive of State aid to soldiers' families, was six thousand three hundred and thirty-three dollars and seventy-three cents ($6,333.73). The amount of money raised and expended by the town for State aid to soldiers' families during the four years of the war, and which was afterwards reimbursed by the Commonwealth, was as follows: In 1861, $153.48; in 1862, $953.35; in 1863, $1,361.48; in 1864, $1,102.30; in 1865, $400.00. Total amount, $3,970.61.
