[264] The ladies of Deerfield were always active in their good works during the war for the benefit of the soldiers. They worked at home and in the sewing-circle, held fairs and festivals to raise funds, and were constantly forwarding ‘large quantities of all kinds of clothing and other necessaries and luxuries’ to the camps and hospitals.
