--Mr. Sheridan Knowles is said to be in a very peculiar position with respect to his dramatic works. ‘"Our readers are not perhaps aware,"’ says the London Guardian, ‘"that, having become a non-conformist preacher, he now abhors as much as he formerly loved the drama. It unfortunately (or fortunately, perhaps, for the sake of his consistency,) happened that before his conversion he had parted with the copyright to his publishers, on condition of receiving a yearly sum of money. This money, the price of moral poison, as he believes, he now receives under a protest. Thus like the celebrated Johnny Sands, he is obliged to look on impassive with his hands tied, while he is benefited against his will."’
