Cowhiding a man.

--Mrs. Giovanni Devoto was summoned before the Mayor yesterday for cowhiding Juan Luce in the street. The complainant testified that she had performed the operation in a most powerful and convincing manner, and proposed to show the evidence, which was declined by the Mayor. It appeared that the dispute between them had arisen about the ownership of some barrels of smoking tobacco, during which Luce had called Mrs. Devoto some outrageous names, and applied epithet's to her, which she answered by applying a cowskin. The Mayor said he could approve of the acts of neither of the parties; it was certainly not right for the woman to use the weapon or the man to provoke her to do it. The account being about equally balanced, he would dismiss the case, leaving the ownership of the tobacco to be determined in another mode.
