[for the Richmond Dispatch.]

Beverly, Va., June 16, 1861.
To the Editors of the Dispatch: Having recently seen in the Dispatch what purported to be a correct statement of the affair a Philippi, by J. W. Spalding, I take this means of saying that Mr. Spalding's statement is entirely incorrect and unreliable.

The facts in the case will, I hope, soon be made public by the action of a Court of Inquiry, which I have solicited.

Yours, respectfully,
G. A. Porterfield.
