Senior Alderman Sanxay presided at the Police Court yesterday, the
Mayor being confined to his apartment by sickness.
Alex. Gentry gave security in the sum of $50 to keep the peace, having been somewhat uproarious on Saturday night.
Ann E. Edwards and her young daughter
Jenny, arrested for keeping a disorderly house, were committed to jail in default of surely to keep the peace and for their appearance before the
Grand Jury.
Wm. Cummings, charged with interfering with the watchmen in the discharge of their duty, failed to make his appearance.
Albert, slave of
S. S. Hardgrove, was brought up on a charge of stealing a trunk from
John C. Page; but one of the witnesses having been disabled by a kick from a horse, the case was continued until Thursday.
Henry, slave of
Wm. Gaines, was ordered to be flogged for stealing a pair of shoes.
Three or four cases of drunkenness were disposed of.
