The organization of a joint stock company to open the Washoe silver mines is among the most notable features of the times.
As often as two or three times per week some company, with a nominal capital stock ranging all the way from $500,000 up to several millions, files articles of incorporation with the Secretary of State
, elects officers, and appears to be earnestly preparing to commence silver mining — Some of these comprise men of wealth and character, while many are doubtless stock-jobbing operations.
