Col. Gilham's Brigade.

We have received a communication, signed ‘"Some of the Officers of the Brigade,"’ which contains comments on an article, based on a letter from a member of company F, published in this paper on the 10th inst., relative to the recent movements of Col. Gilham's command. We subjoin an extract:

‘ "We do not consider it necessary to correct the mistakes as to facts contained in the article, but deem it a simple act of justice to the Commandant, as well as to the brigade, to state that when all of the facts in regard to the movement from Middle to Elk Mountain can with propriety be made known, it will meet the approval of the public, as is known here it has already met that of the General commanding on this line.

"The position occupied by Col. Gilham and his brigade on Middle Mountain was one of honor, and that position was maintained until every object for which it was assumed had been fully accomplished, and was then for military reasons deliberately and quietly abandoned.

"Short rations in a soldier's life is no new thing under the sun, and need create no alarm with any friends of the army of the Northwest or of company F, as we can assure them we are in no danger of starving."
