Incidents on the Peninsula.

A few days ago a foraging expedition, under Gen. Magruder's orders, proceeded to the neighborhood of Back river, and while scouring the country discovered a party of Yankees with a large quantity of corn, gathered and ready for removal to Newport News. Our men made a descent upon the thieving rascals and chased them off, killing several. It is by these successful dashes that the pillagers on the Peninsula occasionally receive a portion of the punishment which they deserve.

We regret to learn that a serious mistake was made not long since by one of our reconnoitering parties. Mr. Lee Blanton, of the Cumberland Troop, had been performing vidette duty, and was returning to camp with a companion, when they met the detachment, and though they protested that they were all right the party would have it that they were Yankees, and fired upon them. Mr. B. and his companion put spurs to their horses, and in rapidly retreating from such a dangerous neighborhood, the former received two or three severe wounds. He has been compelled in consequence to withdraw from the service for the present, and return to Cumberland.
