Fire.
--At an early hour on Saturday morning, a building formerly occupied by
F. G. Ruffin as a guano mill, but lately as a snuff and tobacco factory by
Charles L. Hobson, on Cary street, north side of the Basin, took fire and was partially destroyed.
The property belongs to the estate of
Mr. S. D. Crenshaw.
By the well directed efforts of the firemen the damage was principally confined to the roof and upper story, though the machinery and stock sustained a good deal of injury from the flood of water.
The building, which is insured for $10,000 in the Insurance Company of the
State of Virginia, is damaged to the amount of about $2,000. We understand that the machinery was insured for $13,000, in the Merchants', Valley, and
Alexandria companies.
The origin of the fire is unknown.
