General Dimmock.

We understand that Governor Letcher has conferred upon Colonel Dimmock, of the Ordnance Department of Virginia, the appointment of Brevet-Brigadier General.--The reasons given for this mark of destination, are "for faithful and long continued service as Commandant of the Public Guard and Superintendent of the Public Armory; but more especially for highly important service as Colonel and Chief of the Ordnance Department of the State during the present war, by which that Department has been made a most effective arm of the public service, rendering invaluable aid to the armies of the Confederacy in Virginia and elsewhere, by furnishing them promptly with ordnance, arms, and ammunition, in critical emergencies. " The Governor deems the Brevot rank meet worthily earned.
