A suspicious character.

--Thomas Dobson, little in size, indifferent as regards length of days, and unpromising as to looks, but considerable in ingenious resources for getting a living without honest endeavors, was arraigned yesterday, for the half hundredth time as a person to whom suspicion justly attached as neither ornamental or useful as a present or prospective citizen of this desirable town.-- The watchman who made the arrest, testified that while in the matter of robbery Tom had been quiescent for some weeks past, he was no doubt gathering in a store of information that would serve a good turn here after. Tom was gifted with; the habit of staying out late as night, being often found in alleys and in suspicious proximity to stores desirable for their supposed contents. When arrested, he was standing in the alley leading to the Trader's Bank, with a dubious character, who, on the approach of the guardian of the night, gave leg bail. The Mayor, after patiently listening to the rehearsal of a character that by observation he knew by heart, entered an order testifying his belief that Tom was a very bad boy, and thereupon sent him to jail in default of surely for his good behavior.
