Reprehensible practice.
--The market men who come to
Richmond by the
Charles City and
Williamsburg roads constantly complain of the robberies committed on their property almost in sight of the glittering spires of the
Metropolitan city.
These robberies generally occur in the neighborhood of
Fulton and Marion Hills, and are perpetrated by persons disguised in the uniform of Confederate soldiers.
One market man was met near
Fulton yesterday morning and had sixty shad taken from his cart; another was robbed of a sturgeon and some other fish that he was bringing to market.
Saturday night in the lower end of
Rocketts a woman's house was entered by a gang of men, who helped themselves to $500 worth of clothing, mostly belonging to the
Government, and which the woman was engaged in sewing on. These outrages should not be tolerated, and if committed by soldiers the commanders of posts near the scene of the outrages should take measures to detect the guilty parties.
