Gen. Morgan.

--We are gratified to see that the Government has at last done justice to this gallant soldier. He has been turned loose, it is said, with instructions to report to no one but Gen. Johnston. We have the first fruits of the movement in the following dispatch from Morgan himself, dated Monticello, Ky., May 12th, 8 A. M.:

"I have met the enemy, 10,000 strong — the cavalry under Woolford, the infantry under Gen. Carter--and have repulsed them, with heavy loss. They retreated across the Cumberland, leaving their baggage, camp equipage, etc., in my hands. They lost 300 drowned while crossing the river. I am on the field burying dead Yankees. My loss is light, considering two days engagement."
