Another Yankee raid.

The town was busily engaged yesterday in talking over another Yankee raid which is reported as now being made upon Richmond from the Peninsula. At one time rumor got so outrageous that she had from six to sixty thousand Federals advancing upon the city.--They had whipped Gen. Wise, gotten between him and the capital, and were in Charles City rapidly marching upon the "doomed city." The truth of the story, as far as we have been able to gather it by application at the proper quarters, is this: A Yankee gunboat, accompanied by two transports, came up Thursday as far as the mouth of the Chickahominy river and went up that stream a short distance on a pillaging expedition. They returned to Jamestown yesterday. As to the troops, except those marauders landed from the boats, nothing seems to be definitely known. There is doubtless a force some distance up the Peninsula; but how far, it is impossible to ascertain. Last night, at 9 o'clock, no Yankees had been heard from at Slatersville, nine miles below the White House.

It may be proper to state that every precaution has been taken by the military authorities, and that there are troops enough around the city to drive back a much larger force than may be expected to be concerned in a mere raid.

One report says that the enemy landed in considerable force at a point known as Windsor Shades, in James City county, on Thursday; but this, as other rumors connected with this affair, lacks confirmation.
