Departure of gunboats.

The last of the several gunboats which have been prowling about James river for a week past reached Newport News, in the vicinity of Fortress Monroe, Monday evening last.

Last Tuesday night two of the monitors in the river came up as far as Haxall's, this side of City Point, and made fast to the wharf there. They fired guns during the night as a signal for the negroes, many of whom went off to them, including 15 belonging to Mr. Hill Carter. During the night the Yankees placed torpedoes in the river.
