A noble example.
It is pleasing to record instances of liberality and generosity at a period when the greed of gain and the spirit of extortion seem to have seized upon so large a portion of the community.
We learn that
Dr. John Roy Baylor, of Caroline, upon being requested to sell products of his farm to a committee of citizens upon more than Government prices, emphatically declined to receive more than those prices.
The same gentleman has supplied the
Government with provisions sufficient for the support of an entire regiment, and has given access to his granary, free of all price, to suffering soldiers and poor of his neighborhood.
All honor to this true
Virginia gentleman, "one of the olden time." Would that there were more like him!
Would that his example might kindle a flame of generous emulation in the hearts of all the agriculturists of the country!
