The Legislature.

In the Senate yesterday the House joint resolution appointing a committee to inform the Governor and Lt. Governor elect of their election having been read, the President announced Messrs. Marshall Randolph, and Alderson, as said committee on the part of the Senate.

A bill was reported to amend and re-enact certain sections of the Code of Virginia in

relation to the punishment of offences committed by free negroes.

Also, a bill to provide for employing in the public service, or for the public benefit, free negroes convicted of misdemeanors.

Among the resolutions adopted was one by Mr. Randolph, for dispensing with the Examining Court in cases of felony tried in the city of Richmond.

Also, by Mr. Dickinson--Of providing by law adequate pains and penalties for the prevention of frauds by persons purchasing commissary and quartermaster stores, falsely representing themselves as officers or agents of the Government.

A bill increasing the capital stock of the Virginia and Tennessee railroad was passed.

A communication from the Governor in response to a resolution of the Senate was read, relating to the officers of the army and navy of the United States who resigned their positions and offered their services to Virginia at the time of the passage of the ordinance of secession by that State. Adjourned.

In the House a bill was reported authorizing the Charlottesville, Savings Bank to reduce the number of their directors.

A resolution was adopted for making additional provision for the manufacture of salt. Also, a resolution calling upon the Board of Public Works for all the information in their possession concerning the manufacture, cost, and the amount total of salt made at Saltville since January, 1863. And a resolution providing for the voting of Virginia soldiers at their county elections.

The House agreed to the joint resolution of the Senate providing for an adjournment on the 21st inst, till the 6th January, 1864. Adjourned.
