Trading with soldiers.
--By an act of Congress and an order of the War Department, all persons are prohibited, on pain of imprisonment, from buying
wearing apparel of any description from Confederate soldiers or sailors.
This law was passed to protect the
Government and its men from heavy losses, and cannot be too rigidly enforced.
Unfortunately for the execution of this law, there is no State law prohibiting the traffic complained of, and unless the Legislature passes one, citizens charged with this offence must be taken before a
C. S. Commissioner for examination, and then sent to a C. S. Circuit
Judge for trial.
It is the duty of every citizen to aid the C. S. Government in the enforcement of its laws, and when they willfully violate it they.
deserve the severest punishment.
