Mayor's Court.
--The
Mayor's docket yesterday morning was a very long one; but the cases were of a trivial character.
The following summary embraces only those of interest:
John W. Mathews, white, charged with being an idle, dissolute person, and having no visible means of support, was, after a hearing of the testimony against him, ordered to be carried to the
Provost Marshal.
The evidence against William, slave of
Powhatan Roberts, charged with entering, by force, the bar room of
William A. Porter, and stealing therefrom seven gallons of whiskey and a lot of cigars, valued at $1,000, was of such a character as to determine the
Mayor of his guilt in the matter, and he was therefore ordered a whipping.
Augustus Duckett and
Frederick Stats were required to give security for their good behavior for twelve months, on the charge of using insulting and abusive language towards, and threatening to boat,
Mary Gallager.
William and Net, slaves, were ordered to be whipped for stealing from the
Confederate States sixteen canvas bugs.
