A Japanese matrimonial advertisement.

--Among the many odd customs which distinguished the Chinese of Java is one which would startle the young ladies of England. Beneath the windows of their house are often to be seen an empty flower-pot "lying horizontally on the portico roof." It is nothing more nor less than a matrimonial advertisement, the plain English of which is: "A young lady is in the house. Husband wanted."
