Mr. Keily, of Petersburg, introduced a resolution instructing the Committee on Finance to inquire into the expediency of further disposing at auction of no much of the stock owned by the Commonwealth as will suffice to pay the soldiers of Virginia their arrearages of pay. The resolution was agreed to.

Mr. Hunter, of Berkeley, presented the

following preamble and resolution, which, being objected to, lies over under the rules:

‘ "Whereas the time has arrived when every man capable of bearing arms should be in the military service,

"Resolved, That all members of the General. Assembly, whose physical condition will enable them to perform active military duty, will enter the service immediately after the adjournment of this body, and continue therein, except when engaged in the performance of other public duties incompatible with such service."

’ Bills were taken up on their third reading. A good many were tabled.--The following were passed:

‘ The bill providing compensation for the Governor, Judges and other officers of Government, in lieu of the compensation now allowed by law. [The bill increases the Governor's annual pay to twenty thousand dollars, and the Judges of the District Courts in proportion.]

’ The bill appropriating two millions of dollars to provide for the purchase and distribution of cotton, cotton cloth and cotton cards among the people of the State, was read the third time and tabled.

Some other business occupied the body until 3 P. M., when the House adjourned.
