Discovery of a New process for the Preservation of animal food.

--Some twelve months ago, an association was formed in England to ascertain the best means of supplying the markets with fresh animal food from those counties where it is produced in immense quantities and at little cost. The result of the efforts of this association is stated to be the discovery of a process by which venison, poultry, mutton, beef, and other similar articles, may be preserved in a fresh raw state for an indefinite period, and under all circumstances of climate and temperature. If the English statements upon the subject are correct, the application of this new discovery — which is understood to be patented — to animal food in Texas and the far West, and brought, thus preserved, into the great cities and most populous parts of the United States, would be of incalculable benefit to the inhabitants. The capital of the association is very large, and the owner of one of the most extensive estates in Australia has offered to supply them with meat of the finest quality at a penny a pound.

Not a few people in Richmond would like to have the benefits of this discovery, and to eat meat "at a penny a pound."
