The election.

--An election took place in this city yesterday for a member of the House of Delegates and for Commonwealth's Attorney of the Circuit Court, to fill vacancies occasioned by the death of Littleton Tazewell, Esq. The contest passed off very quietly, no disturbance having occurred in either ward; and Colonel Thomas J. Evans was elected to the House of Delegates and Major N. A. Sturdivant to the position of Commonwealth's Attorney by the following vote:
