Y.</placeName>, <dateStruct value="1832-10-16" full="yes" authname="1832-10-16"><month reg="10" full="yes">Oct.</month> <day reg="16" full="yes">16</day>, <year reg="1832" full="yes">1832</year></dateStruct>; after attending the common schools of his neighborhood, completed his education at the <orgName n="State Normal School" type="school">State Normal School</orgName> at <placeName reg="Albany, Albany, New York" key="tgn,7013266" authname="tgn,7013266">Albany</placeName>; and at the age of <num value="23">twenty-three</num> opened a commercial school at <placeName reg="Oswego, Oswego, New York" key="tgn,7014317" authname="tgn,7014317">Oswego, N. Y.</placeName>, having been a teacher in a similar school kept by his uncle in <placeName reg="Rochester, Monroe, New York" key="tgn,7014348" authname="tgn,7014348">Rochester</placeName>.
