Comparison of Perseus Digital Library vs. Perseus CDsSome of the materials in the Perseus Digital Library have been released on CD-Rom: Perseus has produced three CD-Rom packages, all published by Yale University Press. Building on the success of the 1992 CD-ROM release of Perseus 1.0: Interactive Sources and Studies on Ancient Greek Culture, the Perseus Project produced Perseus 2.0 (Macintosh only) in 1996 and Platform Independent Perseus 2.0 in 2000. The Perseus Project does not sell or provide technical support for Perseus CD-Roms: all inquiries about purchasing Perseus CDs should be directed to Yale University Press, special projects division. Platform Independent Perseus 2.0 is available for the Macintosh or for Windows on four CD-Roms, or in a concise version on one CD-Rom. You may read more about the advantages of Platform Independent Perseus 2.0 in a past issue of the Perseus Newsletter. Keep in mind that the main difference between the CD-ROM and the Perseus Digital Library is that we provide access to this WWW version as an act of collegiality but without any guarantees, implicit or otherwise. We make no guarantees about access to any materials at any time. See the site policy page for more information. Note that the contents of Perseus 2.0 (Macintosh version) and Platform Independent Perseus 2.0 ("PIP") are identical.
For more information on the versions of Perseus, consult the Help & Information Center, which features on-line manuals for CD releases, and help documents for the Perseus Digital Library.
