...rdained a priest in the Mormon Church in 1833; accompanied the Mormons to Salt Lake City; became one of the twelve apostles in April, 1839; travelled over 150,000 miles on missionary tours; succeeded John Taylor as president of the Mormon Church in 1887; and was a member of the Utah legislature for twenty-two years. He died in Salt Lake City, Utah, Sept. 3, 1898.
